At Revolve Massage Therapy, we recognise the unique needs of expectant mothers, which is why our pregnancy massage treatment will be tailored to you, to ensure soothing and therapeutic relief that provides a break from the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy on the body. Towards the end of pregnancy many women find that there is a lot of preparation for their baby’s arrival, but it is also an important time for the mother to relax and take care of herself. Massage can help provide you with special rest time to help you relax and focus on your body and your baby.

Our treatments can help relieve back pain, reduce swelling, improve sleep and contribute to overall well-being by reducing stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Massage is not only beneficial for you but also for your unborn baby as it has an indirect relaxing effect, due to your body releasing increased levels of Oxytocin (the feel good hormone) and Prolactin (the milk stimulating hormone) as a direct result of skin to skin stimulation.

There will be a full consultation at the beginning of every appointment, to ensure the therapist is aware of any medical conditions and musculoskeletal issues to support during the treatment. A pregnancy massage can be given safely to most healthy women but there are a number of circumstances where it is not appropriate or requires GP consent. This will be discussed before booking an appointment, to ensure the treatment is right for you.

Pregnancy massage can help relieve common pregnancy symptoms such as shortness of breath, headaches, physical and mental fatigue, tired and achy muscles and joints, lower back pain, poor sleep, cramps and sciatica. Treatments can also reduce localised swelling by increasing circulation, maintain skin elasticity, and encourage deeper breathing.

Whether you need a full body treatment or one dedicated to specific areas of discomfort, the treatment will be unique to you. Most treatments are conducted in a supported side-lying or seated position, with emphasis placed on your comfort and best position for your baby.

Our post-natal treatments are also completely tailored to your needs, concentrating on the areas in which you feel particular muscular tension such as the neck, shoulders back and feet. Additional (but optional) massage around your tummy encourages your stomach muscles to fully close (after separation during pregnancy) and can help maintain your skin’s elasticity and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. We understand this is an equally important and often stressful time, so our treatments are designed to fully relax and rejuvenate you. A massage can be safely carried out from 14 days after birth on most women who have had a healthy pregnancy and natural or assisted birth (6 weeks after a C-section). As always, a full and in-depth consultation will be completed with you before any treatment takes place.
